Born 1993. Studied computer science and linguistics at Peking University, earning a Master's degree in linguistics. Joined Alibaba's DAMO Academy in 2019 as a Senior Algorithm Engineer working on NLP and multimodal research. Played central roles in Alibaba's M6 (extreme-scale MoE model), OFA (ICML 2022), and Chinese-CLIP. His defining achievement was turning Qwen from a small side project into one of the world's most widely used open-source LLM series. Became the youngest P10-level tech lead at Alibaba (2025) -- an extraordinarily senior technical position. Resigned in March 2026 over disagreements with organizational restructuring that would fragment the vertically integrated Qwen team structure he had built.
