Born 1992 in Paris. Father a mathematician, mother a computer scientist. Studied at Lycee Hoche (prep school), then Ecole Polytechnique (MS Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, 2011-2015), and Ecole Normale Superieure Paris-Saclay (MS Mathematics, Vision and Learning, 2015). PhD in machine learning and functional MRI, followed by a 2-year postdoc in mathematics. Joined DeepMind Paris in late 2020, working on large language models, multimodal systems, and retrieval-augmented architectures. Left in May 2023 to co-found Mistral AI with Guillaume Lample and Timothee Lacroix (both ex-Meta FAIR). Mistral became Europe's AI champion, reaching a multi-billion dollar valuation within a year. Known for open-weight models (Mixtral, Mistral Large) and strategic partnerships with Microsoft, Salesforce, and Nvidia.
